Top web design trends

Creative Bloq has put together seven of the top web design trends that are making waves online.

From social media to interior design, trends can be fleeting or enduring, and web design also relies on this innovation and creativity, in order to catch the eye of users and consumers.

With vibrancy and clarity being key themes this year, top trends include monochromatic schemes, blocking and hovering, and contrasting with duller colours.

Read more about each trend here and tell us which ones you like.

The changing nature of news

PR NewswireThere was a great article in the FT’s Inside Business section by the paper’s media editor, Andrew Edgcliffe-Johnson.  Describing how newsrooms have shrunk, he looks at how services such as PR Newswire (owned by UBM plc) are responding and how it sees its future being driven by digital syndication, social media and search engine optimisation.

As we have commented before in our blog, a rethink has started for press releases as multimedia content to help feed the growing number and variety of news outlets online.  Edgcliffe-Johnson argues that “search and social media trends suggest corporate content will only grow”.

So not only do we now need to be aware that the majority of news is ‘broken’ online, but that how we package up that news into deeper content will increasingly make a difference. This will have an impact not only in how this might be facilitated both client and agency side, but also that the content must be credible and ‘watchable’.

There will be a need  closer integration of advertising, digital marketing, PR and investor relations concludes Edgcliffe-Johnson.

Dash for GoldDash for Gold 2Dash for Gold 3BIRT (Business Information Reporting Tools) developer and founder Actuate has launched a fantastic microsite, Dash for Gold,  that allows you to investigate and explore the results of sports competitions of the past and compare them to this year’s games.

Using their intuitive reporting dashboard they interrogate a wide range of economic, demographic and geographical data to hunt out the trends and enable users to analyse and predict their own medal winners in simple and easy to understand graphical interfaces.

The branding was extended to a series of multi-lingual online banners and a video that guides users through the experience. Working closely with Actuate during the app’s development, The Think Tank has provided advice on messaging, design and graphical execution of the microsite and application as well as the marketing collateral that promotes it.

2011: The Year of the Mobile

Mobile.jpg2011 seems set to be the year of the mobile with apps being created faster than ever before. With a prediction of nearly two-thirds of retail shoppers soon to be using their mobiles for shopping, it would seem as though apps can't be created fast enough.

ForeSee Results have utilised data from the Christmas shopping period to create a benchmark for shopping trends. Such were the results that they have made the bold statement that 'any retailer not actively working to develop, measure, and refine its mobile experience is leaving money on the table for competitors."

Historically trends that hit the consumer market will at some point be on the table for discussion in the business market in the near future. At what point the B2B market will seriously look into this as a touch point in their marketing strategy we shall have to wait and see but it will inevitably be yet another medium for the market to get its head around.
