In its 8th year, DMY 2010 International Design Festival in Berlin showcases the best in young design talent from across Europe. Design Milk's Berlin-based journalist Marie Sophie Bekker has been looking at some of the most inspirational and innovative designs.

Now, The Think Tank has developed a PR strategy to promote Formica Group’s activities in Europe supporting individual territories with events, case studies and corporate/product news. The PR programme is led by Think Tank Director, Samantha Dawe.

Singapore's newest boutique hotel is the The Club by Ministry of Design. Situated in the uber chic Club Street conservation area it has 22 unique rooms, a rooftop skybar with alfresco deck and a destination F&B venue with a tapas bar on the ground floor. Colin Seah, Design Director says, “Searching to ground the hotel in the context of Singapore as well as the historically rich conservation area of Club Street and Ann Siang Hill, we drew its inspiration from 2 sources.” “The first is Singapore’s colonial past, which we have made modern tongue-in-cheek references to through art installation like features such as an larger-than-life statue of Raffles with his head in the clouds as well as through some key furniture pieces and artifacts.

Jeanette Barnes has been documenting London’s major construction projects for the last 20 years. Sketching quickly with 4B pencil on site, and then transferring the details with charcoal on to huge landscapes of paper. Australia’s National Park Service has recently unveiled a new cycle path in the West MacDonnell National Park which includes a bridge built using recycled printer cartridges. Connecting Alice Springs to Simpsons Gap this 17km cycle path uses durable and environmentally friendly materials where possible.

She also comments upon the impact that the mix of individuals within a team has upon idea generation and the way that integration simplifies the client's role in agency briefing.
Copenhagen has adopted a mandatory green roof policy in its desire to become a carbon neutral city by 2025. The new policy makes vegetation and soil a mandatory obligation in planning and it covers all roofs with less than a 300 pitch as well as the refurbishment of older roofs.

The construction of the UK’s largest straw bale building has started. The Sutton Bonington Biosciences Building at the University of Nottingham’s agriculture campus will combine prefabricated construction and local straw from nearby farmland, bringing a high-tech facility to the rural setting The School of Biosciences and the School of Veterinary and Medical Sciences will be sited in the building designed by London-based Make Architects. Located in the hills above Montecito, California, the Ladera Residence’s by Barton Myers Associates was designed to take advantage of the site’s striking features, including majestic oak trees and large boulders. The residence is divided into two wings. A public wing includes living, dining and kitchen areas and opens up to the main outdoor dining and lounging areas.
Thames Water has opened the UK's first desalination plant at Becton in East London. The Thames Gateway Water Treatment Works has been opened to help ensure London - which is classed as "seriously water stressed" - has a much-needed back-up supply during prolonged periods of low rainfall. London is classed by the Environment Agency as 'seriously water stressed'. This is because the region's large population means that the amount of rainfall per head of population is very low. London actually receives less rainfall than Rome, Istanbul, Dallas or Sydney.
