55 Years of the Lego Brick

Imagine a movieImagine a bookImagine a bandImagine a songTo celebrate 55 years, Lego has created a tumblr account called "55 years of the brick".

They've released 55 simple but effective print adverts, asking you to imagine a song, band, movie or book.

See if you can guess what the ads represent - there are a few challenging ones.

The Lego posting has a lot of advertising around it, which can be annoying, but you can view them all at Gizmodo here without the ads.

Mini Lego posters pop up around London

Keeping the lego theme going their new UK advertising for Legoland Windsor has featured mini Lego poster sites across London. The signs are 12-inches high and were placed around London and highlighted by Google Maps with those that found them being encouraged to share their photos on Twitter using a special hashtag.

The ads were created by DLKW Lowe - nice work but we did feature something similar for Channel 4's Seven Dwarves last year.

Construction kit 1.jpg
Construction kit 2.jpgCarrying on our Lego theme from last week Free Art & Technology (F.A.T.) and Synaptic Lab have teamed up to create the Free Universal Construction Kit.

If you're the type of person who owns lots of different construction sets, like Lego, K'Nex, Mechano etc, but are frustrated that they don't fit together then this is for you.!

The Free Universal Construction Kit is a set of 3D adapter bricks that offers complete inter-operability between up to 10 children's construction toys. With nearly 80 models available for free download, the kit can be printed, one at a time, using open-hardware desktop 3D printers like Makerbot.

Just what we've all been waiting for!

World's tallest LEGO Christmas tree unveiled at St Pancras

LEGO Tree.jpgBuilt and installed by the UK’s only LEGO Certified Professional, Duncan Titmarsh of Bright Bricks, the tree stands at 10 metres high and is made entirely out of LEGO bricks making it the tallest LEGO tree ever made. This imposing Christmas tree is made with 600,000 LEGO bricks and 172 LEGO branches.

Of course, no Christmas tree is complete without Christmas baubles and LEGO sought the help of children from Edith Neville Primary School, Camden, and Copenhagen Primary School, Islington, as well as the Harpenden Explorer Scouts Unit to make the 1,200 LEGO baubles that will adorn the tree.

The tree is being built on the lower concorse next to the champagne bar, but is so tall, standing at 12m high that it stretches right up through and above the upper level of the station where the platforms are located. The tree branches were built by a team of Bright Bricks builders off-site and are being assembled with the trunk at the Station. Due to the location of the tree the build can only be done at night. Progress started on Wednesday the 9th November and  it is expected to be completed by the 24th November.

On the 24th a celebrity will be on hand to switch on the lights and officially complete the tree model. The tree will remain at the station until the 2nd of January.

To see more about the LEGO Christmas tree visit Demotix or the St Pancras website.
