Riverside Museum wins award for engagement

The Riverside Museum in Glasgow has won the prestigious European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA).

Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the museum which opened in June 2011, has received the award for it’s ability to “demonstrate brilliantly how a specialist transport collection can renew its relevance through active engagement with the wider social and universal issues.”

The museum, which has received over 2 million visitors in less than 2 years, was chosen out of 40 museums from 21 European Countries and fulfilled the EMYA's criteria of public quality at the highest level.

The Riverside Museum showcases Glasgow’s transport, shipbuilding and engineering heritage.

Zaha Hadid to Develop Plans for New London Airport

In the latest move forward for a new airport for London Boris Johnson has appointed Zaha Hadid Architects, along with aviation experts, to develop designs for a multi runway hub, to be built in the southeast.

Zaha Hadid will submit plans that will also help make recommendations on the location of the airport, which the Mayor of London sees as vital to rejuvenating the British economy and to solve the current aviation crisis.

Other organisations asked to prepare plans, as part of an airport design and infrastructure panel, were Atkins, a British design and engineering company, and Pascall & Watson architects, who worked on St. Pancras international and Heathrow Terminal 5.

Hélène Binet - a master of architectural photography

It's Nice That has featured inspiring architectural photographer Hélène Binet on their website.

The piece covers her relationship with some of the world's top architects and her amazing ability to capture their creations in a truly unique and breath-taking manner. Due to her stunning work, she is regarded as one of the best architectural photographers in the world and when you see the images she has taken it is no surprise that architects such as Le Corbusier, David Chipperfield, Alvar Aalto and Zaha Hadid have all used her to document their work.

Moleskine launches architects series

The Moleskine book has been a favourite of designers, creatives, writers and many others including Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Ernest Hemingway for more than two centuries.

Now, to celebrate the notepad's association with architects and their sketchpads, Moleskine has launched a new range of raw grey cardboard books with excerpts from the original notebooks of four inspirational architects, Zaha Hadid, Giancarlo De Carlo, Peter Wilson of BOLLES+WILSON and Alberto Kalach.


Providing unprecedented access to their archives and personal files these small Moleskine books show reproductions of their works alongside blank pages for the owner’s own use. Passages of handwritten text from the architects explaining their inspiration for the original sketches are also shown within the notebooks as well as replicas of line drawings on table napkins and scraps of paper and early plans for now completed buildings.

These are really interesting insights into the thought processes of some of the world's leading architects and a must have for architecture fans.
