Boris Johnson unveils London Routemaster bus design

Mayor says new jump-on, jump-off Routemaster will give passengers a 'greener, light and airy' service from 2012
Boris Johnson has unveiled the final design for London's new-look double-decker buses.
The mayor said the updated jump-on, jump-off Routemaster would give passengers a "greener, light and airy" service when it is introduced in the capital in 2012.
The vehicles were a key part of Johnson's 2008 election manifesto and will feature two doors as well as an open platform allowing passengers to hop on and off. According to the mayor's office they will have two staircases and be made of lightweight materials, making them 15% more fuel-efficient than existing hybrid buses and 40% more efficient than conventional diesel double-deckers.
The buses are being made by the Northern Irish manufacturer Wrightbus.
Johnson said: "This iconic new part of our transport system is not only beautiful but also has a green heart beating beneath its stylish, swooshing exterior. It will cut emissions and give Londoners a bus they can be proud of, complete with cutting-edge design and the freedom of an open platform."
The Routemaster was withdrawn from regular service in December 2005 by the then mayor, Ken Livingstone, although some still run on a limited basis on two tourist routes. Johnson took office in 2008 promising to bring back a "greener" version of the Routemaster, which was first introduced in London in the mid-1950s.
"I expect to eventually have hundreds of these on London's roads, and for cities around the globe to be beside themselves with envy for our stunning red emblem of 21st-century London," Johnson said.

Hotel construction boom in London - by Kieran Long in Evening Standard

Hotel Construction Boom in London.jpgWhat do you remember from your last stay in a hotel? Was it the subtle welcome of a doorman in a porte cochère, the effortless elegance of a reception desk, the dark glamour of a cocktail bar? Or, like me, do you remember walking down a maze of corridors with no windows, fiddling with a credit-card key, seeing your name incorrectly spelled on the TV screen (Welcome! Mrs Kieran Logn!), then trying for 15 minutes to work out how to turn off the lights?

Formica Group in Partnership with Tom Dixon

The Formica Group has partnered with Tom Dixon for the first time at the Milan Salone Del Mobile (Superstudio Piu) 2010 and now will continue to develop the relationship, touring a number of cities in Europe as part of a specially-created Road Show.

The Think Tank was instrumental in forging this partnership as a part of Formica Group’s PR programme, both in the UK and Europe.

The Tom Dixon stand at the Milan Salone Del Mobile 2010 featured a unique, interchangeable modular system, which utilised Formica® high pressure laminate (HPL). It also contained some intriguing multi-sided models, created by Tom Dixon, which provided a taste of the new Formica® Collection for 2010 to be launched in May.

Gold and Polished Aluminium from the DecoMetal® by Formica Group range featured as stunning finishes on the stand interior walls and provided a high impact, reflective backdrop. Alongside this AR Plus® by Formica Group in White provided a high gloss laminate surface for the stand’s main reception desk.

Formica Group has partnered with Tom Dixon for a unique Road Show which launched at the Milan Salone del Mobile 2010. A modular exhibition system has been specially designed that can be easily transported, constructed and adapted to various locations. This industrially inspired, utilitarian system has been produced in collaboration with Formica Group.

The exhibition system will embark on a road trip immediately after Milan Salone Del Mobile, bringing the new Tom Dixon collection and the new Formica Collection 2010 direct to the global customer. The Road Show will tour eight European cities during the course of the year including Paris, London and Oporto.

The new Formica Collection for 2010 represents a harmonised portfolio of decorative laminates for a range of different environments and furniture. Depth and variety in colour, finishes, new patterns and wood decors offer a versatile material collection.

What Think Act Vote say about themselves:
'Think Act Vote is a campaign to inspire us to think positively about our future and the votes we cast, today, tomorrow and forever.

Think Act Vote was started by a group of friends whose backgrounds are in ethical fashion, politics and design. What brought us together was a shared frustration about the negative view of politics held by so many people in the UK today and an ambition to do something about it – creating a community around our relationship with the political system and the choices we make for our future.'
